My Poor Blog

My poor blog is starving for some attention and posts, so this is one attempt at posting today. I'm chillaxing, and I need to drink a couple more bottles of water because I really need to. Got my eyes on Law & Order with a storyline about an actress buying/adopting an African baby, only to have him die in her care, and she fakes he's still alive by adopting her former assistant's baby. Of course the legal and crime aspects make this story more twisted in a typical L&O style. To me, it could almost become a very dark comedy.

Longing for Longer Posts

In an effort to pump my blogs up once more, I'm looking at longer posts.  Began one already that's over one page long single spaced. It's still in the infant stages, and this time I'm looking for more quotable sources.  Also I'd like to work on a second longer post for film reviews.  One at a time I suppose.  Should keep my notebook ready, just in case I'm inspired.  Also more themed writings.  I've seen several films but let's talk about something specific about them now.  So a new chapter of writing begins.

Looking for ways to use citation and NOT be too long a post.  You see, I'd like for the new cinema post to have a bit more bite than I'm used to writing.  This means looking up sources. If I used them, I want to cite them, but since this is not an academic paper or an article I was wondering how in depth I would need to make the citations.  Certainly I want to give credit where credit is due.

Perhaps if I allude to the sources instead of directly quoting them.  I will for sure include info of the title and info I can for people to look up the parent source. For example, I am referencing the movie, and I do give information on the movies. Why not any essays, articles or books?  This is a work in progress, but I need to make some adjustments to my writing style as my demands increase.  

Writing

I am most fortunate this morning as I managed to get my writing exercise completed.  I am more than tempted to try another to keep the juices flowing.  I need  to put a break in the middle of this cause I want to edite a short story I should have edited a while back, but was too lazy to get off my duff to do.  After than some edits for a friend. I'm looking to get myself writing every day and keeping up with at bare minimum two 20 minute exercises and edits.

I need to be a bit more stronger in the writing department and keep myself going so that things work and flow better for my writing. Also I need to make sure that I am keeping my mind active with something positive and constructive.

Learned that listing to instrumental music helps my brain out a whole lot when it comes to writing. Of late listing to my regular play lists has me singing and bobbing my head to the beats.  Not typing just me enjoying some music.  perhaps I need to set aside some music time to enjoy some of the songs.  

Work It: Forget the Other Stuff

Today is the first of  four warm-ups.  This one will be simple, as I intend to get a lot of writing-related projects done.  I have a lot of editing/revising to do so I know I’m down for that.  Got my playlist ready based off of the song “Yo Mister” by Patti LaBelle.  It should prove to be fun an unpredictable as I’m using the iTunes Genius feature today.  If that fails I’m going to have to listen to gaming scores. 

One thing that I realize is that I’m going to have to work harder at my writing.  It won’t fall into my lap completed, you know.  I need to get my act together if I want o be part of the solution as opposed to mentally talking myself down from the projects.  I will not be ruled by fear and intimidation of what has not even taken place.  I’m more than capable of taking on the task. 

For the record I have been writing posts and been slacking off on posting them.  I need to get those done as well.  So here’s to me getting my work done.  It’s sorta like homework, but more fun, and with deeper persona satisfaction.

To Do Lists

The time has come for me to get more of my act together, and I know that takes more than saying I'm doing what I set out to do.  A brother needs to get organized.  I'm rather scatterbrained (typical artist behavior).  So now's the time to try out making tangible to do lists.

The goal is not to do everything in one day, but rather looking at what I want to do, and not getting overwhelmed with the process.  For example, I'm working on my thesis, but if I focus on getting a certain topic within the thesis covered, I can get that done, then work on the next.  

Also this should help with my fiction and blog posts.   I need to have a list of topics and worth them into my daily schedule.  The main thing is I'm not expecting perfection with this, but rather structure and results.  Even if something doesn't get accomplished, i can map my expectations and eventually fine tune what I'm doing.

Inspired In the Morning

Woke up this morning with an idea for a prose short story.  It dawned on me that this felt like a part of an older story I wrote.  It was like I have an open door here.  I've thought about this story more and more.  Found the original, and I realized how unfinished this story must be.  I have more to add and cut.  I do believe it is worth telling and must commit to it being completed.   If I do not I feel I have not given this story what it needs to be a whole story.  

Now that I have new skills to enhance my writing, I should take full advantage of them now to make what I wrote sing.   Writing can have a metaphysical aspect to it.  I like that it does.

And Now, Act II

I feel real happy about now.  I am ready to move onto Act II of my screenplay.  It's been a little rough for me, but during my break I was able to add a page or two to the script.  Even managed to backup my file (which you should ALWAYS do).  I slacked off a couple of times, but I got back on top of things.  

Scribbling

I had a good day last night as I tuned out of the internet and worked on my screnplay.  I was able to revise and add a few pages.   I love the fact that i was able to push forward because for a brife moment, I felt stuck.  Stuck is bad.  I could not reach a decision.  I made myself revise a couple of the pages.  I still question a couple of moments in the script but they had to be written in order for me to get past the rough spot.  

On Writing

After Art Criticism, I have learned a few tricks, and one of them is looking at strengths and weaknesses. It has become an asset that I do like. After writing an artist biography and statement and seeing the grade criteria for both, I found an interesting self-analysis of myself as a writer I’ve decided to post. Bear with me as I wrote this in third person.

Strengths:

• The writer has a strong grasp on the technical bones of writing. He can format a research paper/script/short story effortlessly.
• The writer knows how to construct arguments and prove them in his research papers.
• The writing style adjusts to certain formats stronger. The writer works in poetry, prose, scripts, blog entries and research formats (MLA, APA, etc.).
• The writer is willing to experiment in style to yield new results. Example: blending poetic writing with prose & blog entries.
• The writer uses highly imaginative diction in poetic style.
• The writer has a tangible sense of humor that comes through in his scripts
• The writer experiments with his scripting style.
• The writer loves writing.
• The writer has a simple, breezy style of writing for his blog, making it easy to read.

Weaknesses

• The writer is sometimes too technical in his fiction, which makes them resemble research papers.
• The writer sometimes does not make the emotional connection to his fiction characters, which holds them back.
• The writer should relax more when writing: He needs to dispel the audience from his head, as he seems more concerned with formal/technical aspects than the story.
• The writer does not focus on a body of work, but instead shifts from project to project, creating a disjointed body of work.

Suggestions:

• The writer should follow his instincts more, and worry less about the audience.
• Try making an emotional connection to the characters.
• The writer should focus on a project and see it to completion publication.
• Keep experimenting in styles to produce different results may shake audience out of head.
• Continue writing.

Come Back To Me

This is one of those times where I need to get my writings together. I need to finish this six script portfolio get it done. It's been on the back burner, and it needs its rewrites like a junkie needs their fix. Yes it's calling. This is what happens when I play Prince music. Things I love come back to me.
